Heading out to New York for a week or so. Hope to do some touristy things this time around, as well as the normal wine tours. Hoping to make it to NYC, I’ve never been there. They offer day trips by bus which is convenient for me – but it leaves only 8 hours in the city – I’m pretty sure NYC is bigger than that.

The drive. I’ve made this drive twice now. I’m not even printing off directions this time. It’s incredibly easy. Get on 94 east, get on 90 east, get on 86 east, exit Ithaca.

Here’s are pre-drive fuck you to Ohio though – Ohio, you suck at roads, you suck at landscape, and you suck at having hills. I’ll be seeing you soon, you son-of-a-skunt. God I hate that state. And it figures that the state with the highest tolls (it costs $12.75 to drive through Ohio) has the suckiest roads. As much as I loathe construction, we have VERY high quality roads in WI.

new position…already?

My manager unofficially offered me a team leader position this morning. I don’t know what to think. I’ve only been in my position for 4-5 months. Also, when I originally interviewed in this team, I interviewed for the team lead position, was told I didn’t have enough expereince, and was offered my current position instead. I found out after my interview cycle that it was one person in particular on the team who was vocal about me not being the team lead, and this person still works here on the team. So….tough one. I can’t really see myself not accepting this, but I also don’t want to be leading a team who already has the idea that I’m not qualified.

In the career path, this is a step in the right direction. I want to be a quality/testing/engineering/regulatory/compliance executive (I’m not picky…..). Leading a team of test engineers is right up my alley. It’s also a small team in a smaller division of GE (is there such a thing?), with an outstanding manager/mentor, so I think it would be a good starting place.

But like I said, I’m pretty sure that I would be the team leader of a pretty disgruntled team….not good.

oh yeah

Got in touch with an old friend today, Laura. We went to middle and high school together, I convinced her to come to MU and major in biomedical engineering with me, and from there we went seperate ways. I went software, she went mechanical. Obviously the software people can’t converse with the mechanical people, they are barely human. Anyway, she just got her MS in biomedical engineering and is looking for a job. Boy did you come to the right place! It just so happens that we have about a dozen openings in my immediate area. We’ll see what happens.
