pandora

I’ve discovered pandora – a music service that streams songs to you in radio fashion (no rewinding or choosing what song comes next). You “seed” a station with a few artists or songs, and then when a song plays you give it the thumbs up or down. The backend of pandora categorizes each song by hundreds of attributes (they call it the music genome) and chooses your next song based on how you defined your station and what you have liked/disliked on it so far. I’m finding it a great way to discover new artists.

I have an acoustic rockish station that I’ve been playing around with, and after only maybe 2-3 hours of listening it has done a great job of picking songs that fit the genre.

Getting divorced in an exercise in paperwork and reading directions very very carefully. And playing phone tag with clerks and paralegals. Patience is a required skill. I now understand why people pay lawyers so much money to this for them.

Hinterland Dinner

I’m officially moving Hinterland up a few notches in my “best of Milwaukee” list. The list in is my head, but Hinterland is now near the top. Some of the dishes were downright ethereal. Except for a few minor flaws (a few of the dishes were under seasoned I thought, and the portions were a tad big for 9 courses, and the curious choice of a fish course after the lamb), it was in my top 10 best meals of all time.

Menu:

Andouille crusted hawaiian walu
fingerling potato, sweet pepper, corn, andouille sausage, red hot butter sauce, chive aïoli

Seared Scallop
black and red quinoa, baby beets, swiss chard, red beet emulsion

Thai chili and coconut dusted bigeye tuna “rare”
lo mein noodles, snap peas, carrot, bluefoot chanterelle, curry coconut sauce

Wood-fire grilled pork tenderloin
nueske’s® smoked bacon, pearl onion, brussel sprout and sweet potato hash, chili oil, natural reduction

Seared maple leaf farms duck breast
snap pea, carrots, spelt and sesame pancake, shimeji, tamarind barbecue sauce

Mole spiced australian lamb loin
cumin, carrots, mint, yogurt

Wood-fire grilled hawaiian kajicki
israeli couscous, heirloom eggplant, swiss chard, squash, tomato coulis

Wood-fire grilled wild mushroom dusted hanger steak
rice beans, broccolini, spanish onions, wax beans, wild mushroom, celeriac purée

Brulee’d meyer lemon tart
Canteloupe tarragon ice cream, pea shoots

Cost was $90/person not including wine (they seem to have a unique and thoughtful wine list). At $10/course I think it’s a bargain.
